Saudi Arabian cement sales fall in February

The aggregate sales of 17 Saudi Arabian cement producers fell 14 per cent to 4.3Mt in February, from 5Mt in the same month last year, according to recent data issued by Yamama Cement Co . The price of bag of cement in Honduras has edged up HNL10 in the last few days, making civil works and access to housing for the local population more expensive, according to La Tribuna. A 46kg bag of cement now costs HNL210, up from HNL200 last month, in the capital Tegucigalpa’s shops, said Silvio Larios, executive director of the Honduran construction chamber, CHICO.

Cement production in Italy in December 2021 saw a one per cent drop when compared with the index with a 2015 base, an improvement when compared with the November 2021when the fall was six per cent, according to Federbeton, Italy’s concrete association. The price of cement in Mali has increased by 10 per cent from XOF100,000 (US$170.59) to XOF110,000/t in the past week. Traders have attributed the price rise to the embargo imposed on Mali by ECOWAS through the closure of borders, according to Mali Actu.

LafargeHolcim Le Havre site up for sale

Installed in 1969 along the canal in the industrial port area of Le Havre, the former LafargeHolcim cement plant is being dismantled. The plant had been converted in 2016 to a centre for grinding imported clinker. A call for expression of interest has been launched by Haropa port to find a buyer for the 24.3ha site. Deadline for applications is 11 March 2022, with a possible award scheduled during the summer.

Vietnam sees fall in January domestic sales while exports advance

Vietnam saw a 24 per cent drop in cement sales to 4,133,512t in January 2022 when compared with January 2021, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, VICEM sold 1,382,175t, down 20 per cent YoY, while other associated companies saw their sales shrink 27 per cent YoY to 911,337t in January 2022.
