Aditya Birla group is considering a bid for a 10 to 15 per cent stake in Indonesian coal miner Bumi Resources Tbk PT to secure coal supplies for its expanding cement and aluminium operations, the Economic Times reported on Thursday. Holcim has received approval from New Zealand’s foreign investment regulator to lease port land near a proposed plant. The value of the lease of the 2.3 hectares of land near Timaru on New Zealand’s South Island wasn’t disclosed in the approval notice posted on the Overseas Investment Office website. ACC December dispatches rise 6%

ACC Cement  has posted a 6% rise in its production at 2.03Mt for December 2011, YoY. The cement maker said its despatches also grew 9% to 2.09Mt during the period. For January-December 2011 period, cement production stood at 23.68Mt up 12% YoY. Its dispatches were also up 11% to 23.68Mt YoY.

The construction of Dangote Cement’s plant in Masaiti district on the Copperbelt in Zambia is on course and a consignment of equipment will arrive in the country in the next 10 days, local press reports. Indonesia growth to slow compared to high 2011 base

The growth of cement sales in the domestic market will probably slow in 2012 despite the government’s plans to build many infrastructure projects during the year.

 Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) chairman Urip Timuryono said in Jakarta on Tuesday that cement sales would rise by only six per cent to 49.82Mt this year after recording a 17.5 per cent increase to about 47Mt in 2011.
