Saudi Yamama Cement boosts nine-month net profit 10% YoY

Saudi cement producer Yamama Cement Company said it registered a 10% YoY rise in its net profit for the nine months through September 2011 to SAR549m (US$146.4m) from SAR497m a year ago. For the third quarter of 2011, the company booked a net profit of SAR149m, an increase of 6% on the year. The strong increase was attributed to a rise in sales as a result of higher local demand, Yamama Cement said without giving exact figures. Debra Cement to begin test productions, Ethiopia

Derba Midroc Cement plc, Ethiopia is expected to start test production in the coming week. The factory is 100% complete and has undergone individual unit testing according to Tadesse Kebede, Project Director. US September shipments edge ahead YoY

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for September 2011 were 7Mt, according to the latest data from the US Geological Survey. Russia’s Iskitimtsement to increase output 7.7%

Russian cement plant Iskitimtsement, the main asset of Eduard Taran’s RATM Holding, plans to increase its cement output by 7.7 per cent YoY to 1.4Mt in 2012, Yevgenia Svitova, spokeswoman for the company said Wednesday, as cited by RIA Novosti. Svitova added that the company’s cement output in 2012 is expected to mirror the levels registered in 2010 and 2009.

Egypt’s Misr Beni Suef exports to Libya decline

Misr Beni Suef Cement (MBSC) exports to Lybian Market reached 1000t daily two months ago but have since declined, Almal newspaper reported. Firms exporting bids to Lybia increased from 50,000t to 300,000t. The company’s managing director said that MBSC started to receive exporting bids to Libyan market since last October with good quantities. Total Pakistan cement dispatches are likely to remain flat at 12.42Mt during the first five months (July-November) of the current financial year compared to 12.54Mt in the corresponding period last year. Chinese firm looks to establish Papua plant, Indonesia

State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC), China’s largest state-owned investment holding company, is looking into setting up a cement plant in Manokwari, West Papua, with an anticipated investment of US$200m, an official says.

Thailand’s top industrial conglomerate, Siam Cement Pcl, said on Thursday it expected double-digit growth in sales in 2012 to more than THB400bn (US$13bn) due to post-flood demand for cement and building materials.
