Bosses at Hanson Cement, previously known as Castle Cement, in Clitheroe announced 30 jobs losses – reducing its Ribblesdale factory workforce from 108 to 78. The company has also revealed that it is proposing to reduce production by 30 per cent. Hanson Cement meets 25 per cent of the UK demand for cement and employs around 240 people in Clitheroe. Cement consumption in Honduras this year increased by 10 per cent over 2010, resulting in part from  improvements made in the rural sector.

China aims to eliminate 250Mt of outdated production capacity in the cement industry in the 2011-2015 period, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Tuesday.

 The country’s top 10 cement companies will see their combined output account for 35 percent of the national total by 2015, up from 25 per cent in 2010, according to the 12th Five-Year Plan for the building material industry released by the MIIT.

Colombian cement production in October 2011 totaled 948,900t, 13.8 per cent more than the same month in 2010, according to the Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadistica (DANE). According to the GCC cement sector quarterly report by Global Investment House, the third quarter of this year saw reduced profits of the sector. The report highlights the consolidated net income of listed cement companies in UAE for 9M11 declined by 86.6% to USD10.9m as compared to USD81.3m in 9M10.
