Iran’s eight month output up 9.6 per cent

Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, Mehdi Ghazanfari, said that cement output increased 9.6 per cent in the first eight months of the current Iranian year. Cement production reached 96.5Mt while output reached 5.2Mt in the past calendar month. Mr Ghazanfari noted that the country’s cement capacity was 74Mt, adding that this figure would reach 11Mt by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (2010-15).

East African producers expansion focus

Surging demand for cement in the East Africa region is encouraging manufacturers to expand capacity. Cement manufacturers in Kenya and Tanzania are currently witnessing a rise in consumption. India’s largest cement producer, UltraTech Cement, said shipments in November rose an annual 16.3 per cent to 3.09Mt. Production rose 13.9 per cent to 3.04Mt, the company, part of India’s Aditya Birla Group, said in a statement.

Pakistani company to set up cement processing plant at Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port

The Sri Lankan government has received the approval from the cabinet to award a contract to a Pakistani company to set up a cement processing plant at the Hambantota port. Accordingly, on a proposal submitted by the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Minister of Ports and Highways, Thatta Cement Co. of Pakistan will set up the cement grinding plant at the southern port. The cabinet has already approved three other companies to set up plants at the port.
