Brazil: Jan-November 2011 sales up 7.5 per cent

Preliminary data and market estimates reveal cement sales in Brazil during January to November 2011 reached 58.4Mt, up 7.5 per cent on the same period of 2010. November 2011 sales stood at 5.5Mt, an increase of 6.6 per cent of on the same month of the previous year. For the 12 months between December 2010 to November 2011, domestic sales were 63.2Mt, which represents an 8.2 per cent advance on the corresponding period a year earlier (December 2009 to November 2010).

China National Building Materials, a major Chinese cement producer, is to set up a cement joint venture with a registered capital of CNY10bn (US$1.6bn). China National will take a 50 percent stake in the joint venture, with the rest split among three domestic companies, it said on Friday. Semen Gresik prepares to build two new plants

Indonesia’s largest cement producer PT Semen Gresik said it is preparing the construction of two new cement factories next year to cost around US$600m. The Ecuadorean unit of Holcim plans to start in late 2012 the second phase of an expansion project at its cement plant in Guayaquil, the company said Friday. The second phase will require an investment of nearly US$400m. The Public Investment Corp and most holders of EUR1.03bn of Afrisam Ltd. bonds due in 2012 agreed to a reorganisation of the debt, saving South Africa’s second-largest cement maker from collapse. Dalmia Cement is set to start work soon on its proposed cement plants in Karnataka and Meghalaya, reports Business Line of India. South Africa November sales up 9.1%

Recent data from the Cement and Concrete Institute of South Africa shows that sales for November 2011 totalled 1.14Mt compared to 1.05Mt in 2010, up 9.1%. 

Year to-date sales stand at 10.89, up 3.6 per cent YoY from 10.12Mt from the same period of 2010. 

The moving annual total (12 months to November 2011) reached 11.23Mt against 10.91Mt, representing a YoY advance of 2.9 per cent.
