Iran’s monthly cement output hits 5.6Mt

Iran’s cement output amounted to some 5.6Mt in the first month of the current calendar year (ended April 20), up 17.6 per cent compared to the same period last year, IRNA reported. 

Nearly 5.6Mt of clinker was also produced, up 18 per cent more than last year’s figure. 

 Some 126,191t of clinker and 547,163t of cement were also exported during the same period, an increase of 3.5 per cent YoY.

Brazil has consolidated its leading position in the Cimpor empire as the Portuguese-based cement major reports a rise in first-quarter 2011 profit.         Cimpor’s turnover in the first quarter rose by 14.3 per cent to Ä547.7m and the EBITDA improved by 15.4 per cent to Ä142.4m. South African cement sales edge 1.1% higher

Cement sales in SA moved 1.1% higher YoY in April to 816,338t from 807,820t at the same period in 2010, data from the Cement and Concrete Institute showed on Tuesday. Domestic sales on a year-to-date basis declined 1.9% to 3.29Mt, from 3.35Mt for the same period in 2010. The moving annual total in SA was down 5.2% YoY in April to 10.81Mt from 11.4Mt in April 2010. Verkhnebakansky Cement to construct its own power station

Verkhnebakansky Cement Plant, based in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar region, Russia intends to invest US$36m building a power plant for its own needs, Interfax reports. The 10.5kV station, with a power capacity of 44 MW, is reportedly to have 11 gas engine power units with the JGS 624 GS-N.LC trademark, produced by Austrian firm GE Jenbacher. Lafarge wins Business Council award, USA

The Business Council of Alabama awarded the Lafarge North America Roberta Plant in Calera the honor of 2011 Medium Alabama Manufacturer of the Year. “The 1600-acre site employs 195 men and women and holds close to 25 percent of the market share in Alabama with a total annual production capacity of 1.5Mt of cement,” according to a press release from the BCA. Price of cement in Calabar remains high, Nigeria

The price of cement, which rose in the city of Calabar, Cross River State, has remained high, the News Agency of Nigeria reports. After rising to a peak of NGN2000/bag (US$12.7)in  January it dropped to NGN1700 the following month. Cimpor plans to invest an estimated US272m in a new cement plant in Cerrado Grande, in the Brazilian state of Parana.
