Podilskyi Tsement’s 2010 performance, Ukraine

Podilskyi Tsement cement company (Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region), which is one of the three largest producers of cement in Ukraine, has posted a net profit of UAH16.6m (US$2m) for 2010. In 2010, net revenue was down by 13.68% or UAH 96m to UAH 605.9m, compared with 2009.

Siam City Cement 1Q net profit rises

Siam City Cement PCL said Friday its first-quarter net profit grew 37% due to higher revenue. In the three months ended March 31, Thailand’s second-largest cement maker by capacity posted a net profit of THB1.12bn (US$37m), compared to THB816.8m a year earlier. Sales revenue during the period rose to THB6.22bn from THB5.41bn a year earlier. Expenses rose to THB4.73bn from THB4.30bn over the same period.

Sumitomo Osaka Cement to resume Tochigi operations, Japan

India capacity seen reaching 320Mt by fiscal-end

Indian cement capacity is expected to increase to 315-320Mt by end of this financial year from the current 300Mt. “The target was 290Mtby the end of this year, which we have already achieved. So, we expect the capacity to increase up to 320Mt by the year end,” NA Viswanathan, secretary general, Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA), said. Stating that India was seeing an addition of almost 40Mta, he said in the last five years the production capacity has doubled.

New 0.54Mta cement factory for Niger

The Niger government has approved the creation of a new cement company – La Nouvelle Cimenterie du Niger Diamond SA – with a planned production capacity of 0.54Mta, according to an official source. The government says the CFA3bn (US$85m) project will help to stabilise market prices and ensure a regular supply of cement for Niger. Lafarge announces the sale of its cement and concrete assets in the southeast United States to the Colombia-based conglomerate Cementos Argos for an enterprise value of US$760m.

North Sinai Cement will resume operations within a week after a court cancelled a government decision to scrap the firm’s licence, its chairman told Reuters on Wednesday. Iran’s monthly cement output hits 5.6Mt

Iran’s cement output amounted to some 5.6Mt in the first month of the current calendar year (ended April 20), up 17.6 per cent compared to the same period last year, IRNA reported. 

Nearly 5.6Mt of clinker was also produced, up 18 per cent more than last year’s figure. 

 Some 126,191t of clinker and 547,163t of cement were also exported during the same period, an increase of 3.5 per cent YoY.

Brazil has consolidated its leading position in the Cimpor empire as the Portuguese-based cement major reports a rise in first-quarter 2011 profit.         Cimpor’s turnover in the first quarter rose by 14.3 per cent to Ä547.7m and the EBITDA improved by 15.4 per cent to Ä142.4m.
