Ethiopian to double capacity amid construction boom

Pakistan exported 933.709t of cement and earned US$39.798m in April 2011 compared to 1.573Mt at US$43.005m in March 2011. This reflects a decline of 40.65 per cent and 7.46 per cent in terms of quantity and value in dollar respectively on month-on-month basis, according to data released by Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics. CSN to acquire Cementos Balbao, Spain

Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN), said it agreed to acquire cement producer Cementos Balboa SA and four long steel producers in Spain and Germany from Spain’s Grupo Alfonso Gallardo SLU for EUR543m. CSN and Alfonso Gallardo first announced they were in talks on the acquisition in December. Three South African businesses were banned from importing cement produced by Pakistan’s Lucky Cement while courts investigate whether the product meets regulatory strength standards, Fin24 reported, citing court documents.
