Companies comment on Egyptian operations

Firms in Egypt have started to resume operations for the first time in a week. Suez Cement, the country’s largest listed cement company said it had resumed shipments of cement stocks that had been suspended by political protests. Venezuela pledges to increase cement production

Minister Ricardo Menéndez said that after the nationalisation of cement companies the government has initiated a process to increase production by 1Mt in 2011.  The government said it has initiated a process for operational cost savings, reduced bureaucracy and improved production capacity. Similarly, he said to the government has finalised and developed new investments which target cement production of 10Mt in two years.

Local cement producers are promoting the use of blended cement as an attractive option for basic construction material to strengthen or enhance most major infrastructure projects in the country. Peru production seen rising 16.1%

Peruvian cement production is expected to have risen 16.1 per cent to 8.4Mt and in 2011 is forecast to rise 11.6 per cent to 9.4Mt. Gresik sets out production targets to 2015, Indonesia

Semen Gresik , Indonesia’s largest cement maker by output, aims to boost cement production to 30Mta by 2015, from 20Mt currently, president director Dwi Sutjipto said on Monday. The firm plans to build two factories, on Sumatra and Java islands, costing roughly US$350m each, to achieve the target, he told reporters.

Dyckerhoff reports modest overall improvement

The Buzzi Unicem subsidiary Dyckerhoff’s turnover recovered by 3.2% to €1413m in 2010, having dropped by 30.9% in 2009. Hon. Salisu Be-Awuribe, the District Chief Executive for Central Gonja in the northern region has resolved a long standing impasse between management and staff of the Savannah Cement Company Limited (SAVACEM) operating in Buipe.

 The workers numbering about 300 who have been up in arms against the management of SAVACEM laid down their tools on January 11, 2011 in protest against poor conditions of service.
