Vicat turnover advances, brings two new lines on-stream

Vicat’s turnover advanced by 6.2% in 2010 to €2,014m, which represents a marginal underlying improvement of 0.3%.  Turnover in cement improved by 8.8% to €1,034m, while aggregates and concrete showed a more limited 3.0% increase to €716m.  Other activities improved by 5.5% to €264m.  Cement accounted for 53.0% of turnover, slightly higher than the 52.1% seen in 2009, while the concrete and aggregates share eased further from 33.4% to 32.6%.  Group cement deliveries rose by 11.5% to 16.18Mt, ...

Cimpor cuts output in Egypt

Portuguese cement maker Cimpor has reduced production at its factories near Alexandria, Egypt, and temporarily withdrawn most of its expatriate employees for security reasons. "We are monitoring the situation very closely with prudence to safeguard the security of people and goods," Bloomberg quoted Raul Caldeira, a Cimpor spokesman, as saying.

Cement Companies raise prices by INR5/bag in West India

India’s cement companies have raised prices by INR5 for each 50kg bag in the western part of the country, a dealer said Tuesday. "We see an upward trend in prices. More such increases are likely to happen over the next the next couple of months," the dealer, who didn’t want to be identified, told Dow Jones Newswires. Cement prices in Mumbai are around INR260 a bag after the price increase.

ACC output rises 10%

Indian cement major ACC has reported a modest rise in its cement production and dispatches in January. While cement production during the month rose to 2.06Mt from 1.88Mt in the same month last year, its cement shipments during the first month of the calendar year 2011 stood at 2.05Mt versus 1.91Mt last year.

Eagle’s cement prices continue to drift

UAE cement producers hike prices

Cement manufacturers in the UAE raised their rates as much as 15 per cent yesterday, drawing complaints from the struggling construction industry with contractors saying they cannot afford the increases. Romania probes carbon credits theft from Holcim

Romanian prosecutors said Monday they had launched an investigation after the theft of 1.6 million carbon credits from the local branch of Holcim. "A total of 1.6 million carbon credits, worth 24 million euros, have been transferred illegally," the Department Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) said in a statement. BBMG Corporation on January 28, 2011 won the approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission on an initial public offering (IPO) on the Chinese A-share market and the acquisition of Hebei Taihang Cement Co., Ltd via share swap. Italcementi Temporarily Halts Egypt Production

Italcementi has decided to temporarily halt its production in Egypt for safety reasons following the civil unrest in the country, a source with knowledge of the situation said Monday. According to Italcementi’s website the company has five cement plants as well as 20 concrete plants in Egypt and in 2009 it employed over 4550 people. Its Egyptian unit, Suez Cement has a market share of around 30%, according to the website.
