Venezuela to import cement from Cuba while local supply falls

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez said that a total of 6900t of cement from Cuba will be imported, although the government controls 90 per cent of the cement market. The reasons to purchase imports are a lower production capacity and the fact that many plants have been shut down for repair works.

Construction industry sources said that the supply of cement has been ensured only by Cementos Venezuela (former Cemex), which has a 45 per cent market share.

Raysut to complete UAE firm buy soon

The Sultanate’s biggest cement producer, Raysut Cement Company (RCC), yesterday said that its acquisition of the UAE’s Pioneer Cement will be completed by the end of this year. Moroccan sales fall 1.76%

For the first 11 months of the year, Moroccan sales fell nearly 1.76% recording 13.35Mt against 13.59Mt during the same period in 2009. The decline of 22.71%  in November 2010 sales compared with same month a year ago, shows the same downward trend. In November 2009 sales registered1.1Mt to  857,430t at the end of November 2010. Tanzanian cement production to rise above regional average

Tanzanian cement production is expected to grow by 18 per cent next year, well above the regional rate of 13 per cent, an Equity Research Cement Sector survey has shown. Hebei Province exceeds outdated capacity elimination targets

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China Hebei Province, the targets for the elimination of backward production capacities in Hebei in 2010 have been exceeded. A total of 163 enterprises in Hebei Province, covering 10 industries have dismantled all their backward production capacities in the current year.

The elimination targets for 2010 were exceeded in sectors such as electricity supply, iron and steel making, coke production, cement productions and others.

Dangote to meet national cement demand next year

The Dangote Group has expressed its commitment to fully meet national cement demand by ramping up its domestic production capacity to 20Mta within the next 12 months. Gujarat state plans to treble cement production, India

The Indian state of Gujarat plans to treble its cement production capacity in 3-5 years. Proposals have been invited from cement companies like ACC, ABG, Ambuja Cement, Emami , Indiabulls, Adani group, Ultratech and L&T and the state hopes to raise its capacity from 20Mt to 70Mt. 

 The state will host the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2011 and a government official said cement sector could see investment proposals worth Rs 60,000 crore.

Indonesia 2011 cement consumption seen rising 6%

Indonesia’s domestic cement consumption is expecting to grow six per cent in 2011 from an estimated 40Mt in 2010, the chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) said on Tuesday. The finance ministry sees economic growth next year at 6.4 per cent from six per cent expected in 2010. Domestic cement consumption growth is in line with economic growth forecasts, said Urip Timuryono, chairman of the ASI.

Cementos Cienfuegos SA meets annual target

Cuba’s largest cement factory met its annual target to produce 900,000t of clinker. According to Serafin Céspedes, Technical Director of Cementos Cienfuegos SA, the industry has demonstrated its stability during the 2010 and high efficiency that will allow it to "continue the process and provide another 30,000t by the end of the year."
