Ethiopia’s Ministry of Industry said that some 35 projects with over EBB54bn (US$3.8bn) combined capital have been engaged in cement production. Votorantim lays foundation stone for São Luís unit

President of Votorantim Cimentos, Walter Schalka has laid the foundation stone for the construction of a cement unit in São Luís, the capital of the Brazilian state of Maranhão. Also in attendance at the ceremony was João Castelo, mayor of São Luís. The project is part of the Votorantim group’s plan of increasing capacity to meet growing domestic demand and better serve regional Brazilian markets.

Lafarge Cement to produce ‘lite’ cement, Mauritius

Lafarge (Mauritius) Cement Ltd, cement maker, plans to produce a new type of "lite" cement that contain less cement than required for certain types of work. 
Currently, Mauritius imports a single type of cement that is necessarily applied to all uses, for lack of an alternative. Lafarge proposes to expand the range of cements available by producing a mix of traditional cement and powdered basalt.

CEO says Cementos Lima is ready for more competition

The chief executive of Cementos Lima said the company, the largest cement producer in Peru, is ready to meet increased competition from the entry of foreign cement producers. Inekon Group to build cement works in Vietnam in January

Inekon Group will commence construction of the Phu Son cement works in Vietnam for almost CZK3bn. The investment into construction will according to general manager Josef Husek total EUR156m (CZK3.931bn). The project investor is Vietnamese company Phu Son Cement.
