Indocement shareholder placing shares worth up to US$113m

A shareholder of cement maker PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa has appointed Macquarie Securities Indonesia as the sole selling agent for a share placement worth up to US$113m, a term sheet showed Wednesday. The undisclosed institutional seller is offering 60 million shares, or about 1.6% of Indocement’s outstanding shares, with an offering price of IDR16,000 to IDR17,000 each, representing a discount of up to 5.9% from Wednesday’s closing price.

French authorities approve Holcim’s plant in La Rochelle

The prefect of Charente-Maritime yesterday allowed Holcim to build a grinding plant in the industrial harbour La Pallice in La Rochelle, western France. Holcim will invest EUR70m (US$92.6m) in the project through its local subsidiary Holcim France, as part of its national coverage strategy. Cemex loses injunction to stop antitrust case – report

Cemex had a court injunction overturned by a Mexico City judge, allowing an antitrust case against the cement maker to move forward, El Semanario reported. Cemex had obtained the injunction in a Monterrey court to halt the Mexican antitrust agency’s investigation of the domestic cement market, El Semanario said on its website. Venezuela third-quarter sales contract 12%

According to reports from official agencies, cement and steel companies, sales of inputs in the third quarter of reported falls between 12 and 30% over the same period in 2009, and the impact this decline was younger generation capacity.

Cement shipments exceed 1Mt in November

Argentine cement shipments reached 1Mt in November, including exports, with total cement dispatches accumulating the sixth consecutive monthly rise.

 The latest forecast of the Association of Portland Cement Manufacturers (AFCP) sees 2010 closing with shipments of 10.2Mt, but up until November these have reached 9.5Mt, 9.9 per cent more than the same period in 2009 and exceeding 2008 deliveries by nearly by nearly 100,000t . To date, this has been the best year for the local industry.


Votorantim lays foundation stone for new plant?

Brazil’s Votorantim Cement yesterday launched the foundation stone of its second plant in Mato Grosso. The new plant is located between the districts and Guide Aguaçu in Cuiaba and should be operational in August 2012. With a capacity to produce about 1.2Mta Cuiabá unit will double capacity of cement in the state, including the company’s Noble works. Completion is expected in 2012.

Bim Son Cement Company inaugurates new line, Vietnam

Bim Son Cement Company officially inaugurated and put into operation of the new cement production line. The new production line has total invested capital of VND14,399bn, designed by the Ishikawajima – Harima Heavy Industries Co.,Ltd – IHI (Japan). Till November, the new production line produced 920,507t of clinker and ground total 983,455t of cement. This line will supply the market additional of 2Mt, increasing total capacity of Bim Son cement plant up to 3.8Mta.

Siam Cement said it will sell a 15.6 per cent stake in PTT Chemical Pcl for THB33bn (US$1.1bn) as Thailand’s third-biggest publicly traded company by market value seeks funds for domestic and overseas expansion. Pakistan cement sales likely to decline in November

Pakistan cement dispatches for November 2010 are expected to decline by four per cent YoY to around 2.4Mt compared to 2.5Mt in the same period last year, industry sources told Daily Times. 

 The major decline is likely to be seen in exports which fell by nine per cent to 0.7Mt versus 0.77Mt last year, while local dispatches remained flat to 1.7Mt compared to 1.7Mt seen in November 2009.

 With these numbers, cement dispatches in 5MFY10 fell by 10 per cent YoY to 12.5Mt compared to 13.9Mt....
