Cimpor to integrate operations in Portugal, Spain

Portuguese cement producer Cimpor intends to integrate its activities on the markets in Portugal and Spain. The integration will be carried out in the short term resulting in a new business area, named Iberia, the company said in a filing with Portugal’s bourse regulator CMVM. This internal reorganisation will allow the firm to cancel part of its costs in the region which are now double. Saudi Cement Co nine-month net profit rises

Saudi Cement Company (SCC) said its net profit for the nine months through September 2010 rose 14.6% YoY, to SAR507.5m (US$135.3m) from SAR 442.8m a year earlier. The earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 3.32, up from SAR 2.89. The operating profit increased to SAR523.7m for the first nine months of 2010, from SAR450.8m a year ago. Stabilising German market outlook

In the wake of a sharp rise in GDP of nearly four per cent in 2010, cement consumption in Germany is expected to stabilise in the current year at around 25Mt. Because of this positive trend and particularly hopeful signs in the housing and commercial buildings sectors, the industry expects a growth of 2.2 per cent in 2011.

Ohorongo Cement was surprised by the decision of the Competition Commission last week to prohibit the merger of Ohorongo with AfriSam Namibia Cement.

Vietnam is projected to face a cement glut of 3.5Mt of cement this year, the Ministry of Construction said. The country’s cement and clinker exports will be modest at 700,000t in 2010, the Tuoi tre online newspaper cited the MoC as saying Tuesday. Demand for Finland cement increasing

According to Finnish cement manufacturer Finnsementti, sales of cement will increase by about 17% in 2010 from 2009. According to estimates, the volume of Finland’s cement market will be about 1.7Mt in 2010, compared to about 1.4Mt in 2009. According to Customs, the value of cement imports totalled about EUR21.6m in January-August 2010, representing about one third of Finland’s cement market.

A prolonged monsoon has hit cement consumption growth in India hard. The sector, which had recorded 10.5 per cent growth last fiscal year over the previous one, is expected to manage only around 6.5-7.5 per cent growth this fiscal. Belarus’ cement output increased four per cent on the year in January-October 2010 to 3.832Mt, a representative in the National Statistics Committee told Prime-Tass. In value terms, cement output rose four per cent on the year to BR1.157trn. Cement inventories fell 2.2 per cent in January-October to 29,200t, 7.6 per cent of the average monthly output.
