Anhui Conch Cement Co paced gains among Chinese cement makers on speculation demand for the building material will increase at the same time as energy curbs reduce production, driving up prices. Lafarge plans to increase Iraq capacity by 2Mt

Lafarge plans to increase its capacity in Iraq by 2Mta by 2013 as the country rebuilds homes and infrastructure destroyed by war, reports Bloomberg. Lafarge currently has capacity of 6Mta across three plants and is producing 4Mt, or 25 per cent of Iraq’s cement, Marcel Cobuz, chief executive officer for Iraq, said in an interview in Amman. “Now the demand in Iraq is constantly growing,” he said. New order for Wartsila from Al Badia Cement, Syria

Wartsila has received an operations and maintenance, or O&M, contract from the Al Badia Cement JSC for its captive power plant. Taiheiyo Cement Corp and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co are enjoying improved earnings in their domestic cement segments this fiscal year, thanks to streamlining efforts.
