PT Semen Andalas, which is 99 per cent owned by Lafarge, said its new cement factory in Lhok Nga, Aceh, will start operation in March 2011. The new factory with a production capacity of 1.6Mt is a replacement for one destroyed by a tsunami which devastated Aceh in late 2004. Lafarge Malayan net profit down 22% in 3Q10

Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd’s net profit fell 22% YoY to MYR91.15m (US$28.9m) for the third-quarter of 2010 ended September 30 from MYR116.95m, mainly due to lower export volume and prices, coupled with effects of a weaker US dollar. Cement producers in Vietnam are estimated to have made 51.3Mt of cement in the first 11 months of this year, the General Statistics Office said. The figure represented an on-year increase of 14.9%, the GSO said in a statement released late Monday. In November, the country’s cement output was 5.5Mt, down 10.9% on-year.
