Earnings outlook: ACC quarter net seen down

Lower net realisations and despatches in Apr-Jun are likely to pull India’s leading cement maker ACC Ltd’s net profit down 23% from a year ago to INR3 .72bn rupees, a NewsWire18 poll of 11 brokerages showed.      Net sales during the period is seen falling 2% to INR20.49bn. PPC Zimbabwe warns public to resist high prices

PPC Zimbabwe has urged customers to resist high prices triggered by a shortage of cement on the market, saying it expected a glut of the product soon once its Bulawayo-based plant is commissioned. Dealers had hiked prices of cement, particularly for the Portland cement brands whose availability has been affected by a delay in the re-commissioning of PPC Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo plant.

Vietnam: cement export regulations build solid foundations

According to Nguyen Van Thien, Chair of the Vietnam Cement Association, total cement output for 2010 will reach 55Mt, while design capacity is 70Mt, and total consumption will be 50Mt. Texas Industries posts narrower-than-expected 4Q loss

Cement maker Texas Industries Inc posted a narrower-than-expected quarterly loss, helped by higher shipments of cement and consumer products.   For the fourth quarter, the company posted a loss of $9.8 million, or 35 cents a share, compared with a loss of $42.4 million, or $1.53 a share, a year ago.   Excluding items, the loss was 25 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Bolivian production increases 15 per cent

Bolivia increased cement production by 15 per cent in the first half of this year compared to the same period of 2009, reported an official source.

The general manager of the Bolivian Institute of Cement and Concrete, Marcelo Alfaro, noted that the increase in production adds stability in prices, almost unchanged in recent years.

However, he noted that imports of other building products such as steel and asphalt saw their prices rise in the domestic market.

Shiva Cement  reported a significant rise in standalone net profit for the quarter ended June 2010. During the quarter, the profit of the company rose 2.50 times to INR14.20m from INR5.69m in the same quarter previous year. Net sales for the quarter for the quarter rose 27.01% to Rs 140.49 million, while total income for the quarter rose 27.10% to Rs 141.72 million, when compared with the prior year period.

Angola’s largest import in 2009 was cement

The list of the 100 products most imported by Angola in 2009 was topped by cement, which accounted for 20.94 percent of all the country’s imports, according to figures from the National Freight Council (CNC) cited by weekly newspaper Semanário Angolense.

Three of India’s top four cement manufacturers will likely report a fall in April-June net profit, hurt by lower demand and a decline in product prices.
