Azerbaijan first-half output down

Cement production output in Azerbaijan reached 588,900t in the first half of 2010, down 0.6% versus the same period in 2009. Last year, total output amounted to 1.28Mt down 19.7% down from 2008. Garadagh Cement is the main producer in the country with an annual production capacity of 1-1.4Mt.

CIMA to proceed with new line, Malaysia

UEM Group group managing director/chief executive officer Datuk Izzaddin Idris has said Cement Industries of Malaysia (CIMA) is to proceed with constructing a new line. CIMA, which was taken private by UEM Group last year, plans to add a new line in Bahau, Negri Sembilan. The new line is expected to cost around RM800m.

Oficemen: bleak outlook for Spanish cement sector

The Spanish cement association (Oficemen) revealed yesterday that following the Ministry of Developments decision to cut public works the sector’s future looks bleak. Oficemen’s president, Joaquin Estrada, admitted that "the prospects are not encouraging", and suggested plant closures and employment adjustments may become a reality if the situation does not improve.  "We will try not to close," he said. Peru shipments up 17.52%

Cement shipments in the Peruvian market totalled 3.8Mt  between January and June 2010. This translates into a 17.52 per cent increase over the figure recorded in the same period of 2009 when they totaled 3.23Mt, the Cement Producers Association (ASOCEM) reported today.  
During that period cement production was 3.88Mt, representing an increase of 17.9 per cent from 2009, when it totaled 3.29Mt.
