Caribbean Cement forecasts 10-20% sales decline in 2020

Jamaica-based Caribbean Cement expects its annual sales to drop 10-20 per cent this year, due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. "The forecast we are seeing is a 10 to 20 per cent decline in annual terms," said Yago Castro, general manager. Total sales of Semen Indonesia Group (SIG) fell two per cent in March 2020 to 3,098,449t when compared with March 2019, when sales reached 3,161,373t, according to data released by SIG. Dungsam Cement reports impact of lockdown

Bhutan’s Dungsam Cement Corp has been adversely affected by the lockdown in India, according to Sonam Jigme, CEO. No export volumes or revenue have been recorded from 21 March to 12 April, compared to around 75,000t sold and BTN323m (US$4.2m) of revenue last year. US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers. The total sales volumes of the Semen Indonesia Group, including Thang Long Cement Co (TLCC) and former Holcim subsidiary, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia (SBI), increased 36 per cent in December 2019 to 3.93Mt from 2.891Mt (before the group’s acquisition of SBI and therefore, not included in the group’s consolidated numbers), according to a company statement. Bolivia-based Fábrica Nacional de Cementos SA (Fancesa) will miss its sales and profits targets for the current financial year. Saudi sales increase 24% YoY in November

The sales of 17 cement companies in Saudi Arabia amounted to 4.27Mt in November 2019, a 23.8 per cent YoY increase compared with 3.45Mt in the year-ago period, according to a report by Yamama Cement. Cement production rose by 22 per cent YoY to 4.3Mt during the period, against 3.54Mt in November 2018. Inventories showed modest growth to 1.22Mt from 1.18Mt.  Southern Province Cement Co reportedly recorded the highest sales volume at 613,000t, followed by Saudi Cement Co and Yanbu Cement.

Cement sales in Puerto Rico slipped 2.9 per cent to 46,236.3t (1.084m bags of 42.6kg) in November 2019 when compared with November 2018, when 47,630.6t (1.117m bags) were sold, according to data released by the Economic Development Bank of Puerto Rico. Cement sales in Brazil increased 3.9 per cent YoY in November to 4.7Mt, according to SNIC, the country’s cement association. India’s Sagar Cements has seen the company's standalone cement production/purchase decline 27.4 per cent to 172,160t in November 2019, compared to 236,967t in the year-ago period.
