Exports from southern Pakistan remain strong

Total cement sales in Pakistan declined by seven per cent YoY to 4.3Mt in March 2019 and six per cent YoY to 29.3Mt in 9MFY19. However, exports from the southern region continued to be strong. Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL) has written to the Caribbean Court of Justice to seek higher taxes to be imposed on Rock Hard Cement imports, according to the Nation. GICA-owned Hadjar Soud de Skidka (SCHS) plant in Algeria has exported 37,000t of clinker from Annaba port, according to its CEO Youcef Merabet. Pakistan cement manufacturers have reportedly increased the prices PKR10-15/bag (US$0.07-0.1) of cement in the northern region (Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ) of the country. Bangladesh's clinker imports have been growing in the last five years, apart from in FY15-16, According to the Economic Survey of Bangladesh 2018. The country's cement producers imported US$615m of clinker in FY13-14, which rose to US$766m in last fiscal year of 2017-18. Tabuk Cement of Saudi Arabia has won an order to export 500,000t of clinker to Golden Oil Co in Yemen. The contract will conclude by the end of 2019, according to a bourse statement.
