Indonesian President Joko Widodo has met with community representatives who are resisting plans to build a cement factory and quarry at Mount Kendeng in Central Java, the Jakarta Post reports. Semen Indonesia exports to East Timor

PT Semen Indonesia has said that it exports 15,000t of cement to Dili, East Timor, every month. Through subsidiary Semen Tonasa, the company has exported to Dili every month since 2000, according to senior manager at the company, Sigit Wahano. Mr Wahano said Semen Indonesia, with a production capacity of 31.8Mta, exports 10 per cent of its production volume every year.

Total cement sales by Semen Indonesia crept up by 1.2 per cent in the first half of 2016, compared to the same period last year. The opening six months of this year saw sales hit 12.37Mt, versus 12.23Mt in 1H15. Cement consumption in Indonesia reached 29.48Mt for the first six months of 2016, according to Indonesia Investments, but sales in Java – the largest market – recorded a decline in June. Overall, cement consumption for 1H2016 was up 3.1 per cent YoY. In June, Indonesia consumed 5.1Mt of cement, up by 1.8 per cent YoY. SCG Indonesia, a subsidiary of the Thai cement conglomerate Siam Cement Group (SCG), saw its sales revenue increase 18 per cent YoY to IDR1.39trn (US$103m) in the first quarter, mainly from cement sales. Cement exports by Semen Indonesia (including Semen Padang and Semen Tonasa) fell by 21.3 per cent during May 2016 to 37,588t, compared to 47,751t in the same month last year, according to the Indonesian Cement Association.
