Kenya consumption up 27% in 5M21

Cement consumption in Kenya advanced 26.6 per cent YoY to 3.35Mt in the January-May 2021 period when compared with 2.64Mt in the 5M20, according to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. PCA outlines regional US cement consumption growth trends for 2021-23

Peru’s cement market grew 26 per cent YoY to 1.135Mt in July 2021, compared with 0.904Mt in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Cement production also advanced 29 per cent to 1.063Mt in July 2021 against 0.821Mt in the same month of 2020. Compared to July 2019, production climbed 24 per cent from 0.858Mt. Uzbekistan has reported a 23 per cent YoY increase in Portland cement production to 5.8Mt in the first half of 2021, according to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan. Saudi Cement buys 37% share of United Cement

Saudi Cement Co has acquired a 37 per cent stake in United Cement Industrial Co (UCIC) for SAR28m (US$330,426), as announced in Saudi Cement’s 2Q21 company report. Accordingly, Saudi Cement increased its stake in the subsidiary from 63 to 100 per cent. Sinai Cement records 1H21 net loss of EGP253m

Sinai Cement Co reported a standalone net loss of EGP252.666m (US$16m) in the 1H21, according to the company’s financial statements. This marked a YoY rise of three per cent when compared to a loss of EGP245.687m in 1H20. Taiwan’s Chia Hsin Cement has posted a 10.7 per cent increase in revenue to TWD550.39m (US$19.76m) in the second quarter of the year, compared to TWD496.99m in the 2Q20. Argos recorded cement shipments of 8.6Mt in the 1H21, an increase of 26.9 per cent compared to the 1H20. The advance was supported by the performance of the group in the USA, the Caribbean and Central America, as well as having a low comparison base. FLSmidth’s order intake in the 2Q21 increased 42 per cent compared to the 2Q20 and by 38 per cent to DKK4615m (US$97m) YoY.
