Mexico’s GCC 3Q net profit rises 22.1 per cent

Mexican cement company Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) said Tuesday its third-quarter net profit rose 22.1% on robust sales in Mexico and the US.     In a statement GCC said net profit reached MXP526.8m (US$48.7m) in the third quarter, up from MXN431.6m in the year-ago period.     Net sales rose 10.6% compared with the year-ago period to MXN2.4 billion. Baltsem launches fifth cement kiln

Balakliya-based Baltsem Company, Kharkiv region, Ukraine has commissioned its fifth cement kiln with a cement capacity of 1Mta.      The length of the kiln is 200m and diameter seven meters.  Capacity of the line is 1Mt of cement a year.     After commissioning of the new cement kiln, the total production capacity of the plant rose up to 4.9Mta of cement.     Baltsem is part of Eurocement Group Ukraine, which is a subsidiary of Eurocement Group International Industrial Holding.   

Taiwan Cement, Chia Hsin to merge HK Subsidiaries at end-Oct

Indonesia consumption drops to lowest level

Indonesian cement consumption in September fell by 2.4%  from September last year, or the sharpest decline in the past nine months.    In January-August 2007, the national cement consumption rose by 2.2% to 18% from the same period last year YoY. Eagle Materials Inc reports that, for the quarter ended September 30, its revenues and net earnings were $210.5m and $34.8m, respectively. The company s revenues decreased 18% from the prior year second quarter and net earnings decreased 47% from the same period. Olympus Capital agrees to invest US$28m in Chinese Cement Co

Olympus Capital Holdings said Tuesday it agreed to invest $28 million in Chinese cement producer Sichuan Golden Summit (Group) Joint Stock Co.     With the investment, Olympus and Golden Summit will establish a joint venture, Emeishan Special Cement Co., in which Olympus will own a 49% stake.
