Chumpol to end 13-year reign at Siam Cement, Thailand

Siam Cement president Chumpol NaLamlieng said yesterday he would take early retirement at the end of year, bringing to a close his 13 years at the helm of the country’s largest industrial conglomerate. 7.8Mt of cement produced in 1Q05, Russia

Output of cement in Russia stood at 7.8Mt in January-March 2005, up three per cent from the figure posted in the same period 2004. Eurocement produced about 1.9Mt of cement in the first quarter of 2005, in line with 2004. In 2004 the holding made more than 9.6Mt of cement, an increase of 13% from the figure reported in the same period 2003, the company’s press service said.  

Asia Cement to invest US$600m in China Ops

Taiwan’s Asia Cement Corp said it plans to spend over US$600m on building cement plants along the Yangtze River to meet demand in China over the next ten years, the Commercial Times reports.  Asia Cement, a unit of Taiwan’s Far Eastern Group, will likely generate total production capacity of 24Mt of cement from its China operations, according to the newspaper.

Slovak Holcim (Slovensko) posts EUR 1.8m , Slovakia

Slovak building materials producer Holcim (Slovensko) posted a loss of 72m Slovak crowns (US$2.4m) for 2004. Holcim (Slovensko) loss for 2004 was mainly due to the large investments of nearly 2.5bn crowns (US$81.9m) in a two-stage modernisation project at the company’s plant in Rohoznik, western Slovakia. China group to build world’s biggest clinker factory

The China Anhui CONCH Group plans to invest three billion yuan ($US362 million) in building three production lines, each with a daily capacity of 10,000 tons of cement clinker in Chizhou, according to a letter of intent signed by the two parties. The extraordinary general assemby of the Ras Al Khaimah Cement Company agreed today to raise its capital to Dh 440 divided into 440m shares.
