State-owned cement maker PT Semen Gresik reported a 37.7 per cent increase in its 2004 net profit to Rp520.6bn(US$55.4m) as compared with the previous year. Holcim Philippines Inc said it made a net profit of 1. 2bn pesos last year, reversing a loss of 318.7m pesos in 2003, due to higher export sales and cement prices. Shares of cement companies have outperformed a 7 per cent fall in the Bombay share index in the past three-and-half months as investors ignored short term troubles to bet on the sector’s long-term prospects. The Kramatorsk PUSHKA cement plant (Ukraine) produced 138,400t of cement in the first quarter of 2005. The figure is up 56.6 per cnet YoY. In the meantime, clinker production dropped 12.9 per cent to 84,400t. For the full year, the enterprise targets overall production of 147.3m hryvnias, up 82.6 per cent YoY.
