St. Lawrence Cement denied zoning bid for NY plant.

Indonesia’s cement consumption, an indicator of economic activity, rose 16.5 per cent by volume in March from a year earlier, amid an improved economy, the country’s largest cement maker said on Thursday.  State-controlled PT Semen Gresik Tbk, 25.5 per cent controlled by  Cemex SA, said Southeast Asia’s largest economy used 2.65Mt of cement last month, up from 2.27Mt a year before. Jordan Cement Factories Co 2004 net sales reach US$234.3m

      Jordanian cement producer Jordan Cement Factories Co (JCFC) registered an 18.6 per cent YoY increase in its 2004 net sales to JOD165.8m (US$234.3m).  The company’s output rose 11 pct to 3.097Mt, which is a record-high figure since the company’s establishment. Camargo Correa to buy Loma Negra , Argentina

Brazilian cement maker Camargo Correa Cimentos, a unit of the local construction group Camargo Correa, will pay US$1.025bn for the Argentinean cement giant Loma Negra under an agreement signed on April 19, 2005.  Camargo Correa will also assume Loma Negra’s debts.  The agreement was signed between Camargo Correa and Loma Negra’s shareholder and Argentina’s wealthiest woman, Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat, and envisages also the purchase of Loma Negra’s subsidiaries Compania de Servicios ...

Italcementi plans US$20m investments in Bulgarian plants by 2006

Italcementi said it plans  invest some US$20m (EUR 15.4m) in its two plants in Bulgaria by 2006 to improve quality and reduce environmental impacts.  The new investments will come on top of the $160m Italcementi has put in the plants since their acquisitions in the late 1990s. Chilean cement company Empresas Melon has submitted the EIS for a US$20m cement grinding plant to national environment authority Conama. The plant would be built in southern Region X capital Puerto Montt, and have a 300,000tpa capacity. Cement consumption in Spain decreased 0.3 pct year-on-year to 11.4Mt in the first quarter of 2005, Spanish Cement Makers Association (OFICEMEN) said.
