In January-March,Kramatorsk-based cement plant Pushka (Donetsk region) increased cement production by 56.6 per cent or 50,000t up to 138,400t from the like-2004 period. According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, the Saudi Cement Company has announced SR 119.7m($31.92) net profits in the first quarter of the current year compared with SR 95.1m ($25.36m) in the corresponding period of the previous year. These figures translate into a 25 per cent rise.

The combined sales of cement in Poland dropped by about 25 per cent year-on-year to 1.1Mt in the first quarter of 2005, mainly due to the prolonged winter which had caused a halt in construction works, it was reported on April 14, 2005. Tonasa to expand production capacity

Cement maker PT Semen Tonasa plans to increase its capacity by 800,000t to 4.3Mta, its President Sadman said. The subsidiary of the state-owned PT Semen Gresik will invest US$70m to expand the production capacity of its second and third factories from 600,000t to 1Mta each, Sadman said. The company, located in South Sulawesi, disposes of 80 per cent of its production on the domestic market and exports 20 per cent.

Cement sales in Cyprus rose 14.8 per cent year-on-year reaching 398,200t in the first quarter of 2005, according to data published by the island’s National Statistics Service on April 12, 2005.
