Bacnotan Consolidated Industries Inc, a diversified investment holding company, posted a PHP4.09bn net profit last year, a sharp reversal from a PHP583.4m loss in 2003, on account of a one-off gain from its divestment from a cement company.  Bacnotan sold, among others last year, its direct stake in Union Cement Holdings Corp. for $89.4m. Government launches INC audit consultancy

Combined cement sales at US$1.307bn, Saudi Arabia

The combined sales of Saudi Arabia’s eight cement companies rose to SAR4.9bn  (US$1.307bn) in 2004 from SAR4.5bn  (US$987m) in 2003. The cement companies’ total cement output stood at 25.5Mt, up from 24.1Mt. Local sales rose to 23.8Mt from 22.2Mt, while exports totalled 1.8Mt, compared to 1.5Mt. 

Cement sales slow down in February, India

Cement despatches have slowed down in February on account of low sales in north India.   Gujarat Ambuja Cements’ despatches have slumped 11 per cent at 11 lakh tonne in February compared with 12.41 lakh tonne recorded in the year-ago period.   The company’s production was lower by 10 per cent at 11.01 lakh tonne against 12.28 lakh tonne in the corresponding month of the previous year. Ciments Francais aims to buy out Suez Cement, Egypt

In January 2005, Eurocement Group produced 590,000t of cement, a 34 per cent YoY boost.  Packaged cement accounted for about 32,000t, an 11 per cent YoY increment. Eurocement products are supplied to 50 Russian regions and also exported abroad.  

Cementos Lemona EUR16.9m profit, Spain

Spanish cement maker Cementos Lemona posted a net attributable profit of EUR16.9m  for 2004, a 5.7 per cent YoY decrease, the company said. Gross operating profit decreased 17.5 per cent to EUR27.6m. Turnover dropped slightly by 0.33 per cent to EUR 99.9m. The company attributed the drop in results to the two-month closures of two of the its plants for improvements, which cost Cementos Lemona EUR 44.8m.
