Turkish cement, clinker and ready mix concrete producer Bati Cimento (Baticim) plans to produce 1.5Mt of cement in 2005. Lafarge to increase its plasterboard capacity by 50%, UK

Lafarge announced that it will invest approximately EUR45m in a new plasterboard plant in the Midlands, which will increase its capacity by 50% in the UK with an additional 25Mm2. Jan consumption down 4.2% YoY, Indonesia

Production up 12.2% in 2004 to 1.28Mt, Bolivia

Bolivian cement production increased 12% in 2004 to 1.28Mt compared to the year before, according to the country’s national statistics institute (INE).  Growth occurred thanks to increased production in the Cochabamba and Chuquisaca departments.  Plants in Chuquisaca and La Paz had the largest market share with 26.6% and 25.3%, respectively, followed by Cochabamba (21.4%), Santa Cruz (13.9%), Oruro (6.74%) and Tarija (6.1%). 

Holcim Maroc Settat Unit Operational June 2007

Holcim Maroc, a subsidiary of Holcim Ltd, will start operating its production unit near Settat, northwestern Morocco, as of June 2007. The site has been chosen for its proximity to the Casablanca market, an important cement consumer, and for the nearby quarry. Some 500 mln Moroccan dirhams (US$58.8m) have been invested in the facility. It will cover 74ha, excluding the 340ha quarry. Butra Heidelberg Cement (BHC) Sdn Bhd, the sole producer of cement in the country, defended the impending price hike of cement which was the first in eight years.
