Russian producer Sibirskiy Cement has offered the regional authorities of Buryatia to buy Kamenskiy Cement Works. Earlier the company had already purchased a rough base in Buryatia - Tatarskiy Klyuch open pit quarry. Saudi Eastern Province to install new line

Saudi cement producer Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) will install an additional clinker production line with a daily capacity of 3500tpd the company said in early February 2005.  The upgrade will increase the company’s total clinker capacity to 3.15Mta. The project is to be completed by the end of 2005.  EPC’s clinker production stood at 2,243,511t in 2004, while cement output totalled 2,375,682t. The company’s 2004 cement sales were 2,365,435t. 

Cement consumption grows in 2004

Cement consumption in Brazil grew 1.1 per cent to 33.9Mt in 2004 compared to the year before, according to preliminary data from the country’s national cement industry union SNIC.  In the period, exports grew 32 per cent to 551,671t due principally to the international expansion of leading cement producer Votorantim Cimentos, in particular in the US, newservice AE Setorial reported.  Votorantim produced 13.9Mt last year, followed by Joao Santos with 4.49Mt, Cimpor (3.5Mt), Holcim (2.9Mt)...

Maharashtra comes out top

Backed by a robust surge in demand from the housing sector in Mumbai and Pune, Maharashtra topped the charts in cement consumption reporting a 24% growth in January, the highest year-on-year growth among all the states (reports The economic Times). Cement demand in Spain dropped 0.19 per cent year-on-year to 3.4Mt in January 2005, the Spanish Cement Makers Association (OFICEMEN) said on February 16, 2005.  Cement production in Spain increased by 9.5 per cent year-on-year to 3.4Mt in January 2005. Tangshan Jidong Cement acquires transport unit

Tangshan Jidong Cement Co Ltd said its board has decided to acquire a transport unit belonging to Hebei Jidong Cement Group, its parent company, for 44.11 million yuan (US$5.33m).  Tangshan Jidong Cement said in a statement that the transport unit, which it will buy outright, posted a net profit of 2.45 million yuan (US$296,019) in 2004, when its total revenue stood at 63.07 million yuan.  Hebei Jidong Cement Group owns a controlling 62.94 per cent stake in Tangshan Jidong Cement.
