Aditya Birla Group rolls out new cement brand, India

Aditya Birla group has floated its new brand of cement, UltraTech, which was earlier L&T Cement. Following the acquisition of L&T Cement, Grasim of the Aditya Birla group will have combined cement capacity of 31Mt a year of which 17Mt a year will come from UltraTech.

Cement prices in western India have fallen by about seven percent to 130 rupees per 50kg bag, as a slight drop in export demand forced some local firms to sell more in the domestic market, dealers said on Thursday. Cement sales in Cyprus rose to 145,837 tonnes in September 2004, compared to 125,583t for the same month a year ago. Cement sales in August 2004 stood at 67,146t. Portugal cement sales seen at 8.13Mt in 2004

Portuguese investment bank Millennium bcp investimento (MBCPI) forecast the 2004 cement sales in Portugal to total 8.13Mt, down 0.1 per cent YoY. The country’s cement sales stood at 628,000t in August 2004, down 13 pct month-on-month, and up 10.2 pct year-on-year, MBCPI said. The sales for the period January to August 2004 declined by 0.6 pct year-on-year, MBCPI added.

Birla Corporation’s cement division will invest Rs 200 crore in Madhya Pradesh in a new thermal power plant and for capacity upgrade. Sri Lanka: A grenade attack took place Wednesday evening allegedly targeting a leading private sector cement factory, Tokyo Cement, which is located in Chinabay, about 9 km off Trincomalee town police said.
