Argentina cement sales up

Argentine cement manufacturers saw an 18.3 per cent year-on-year rise in sales, including exports, to 586,133t in September 2004, Argentina’s Portland cement makers’ association AFCP said on October 7, 2004.  The sales in September 2004 marked a 13.9 per cent month-on-month increase, the association added. CCI union to take part in strike

The Cement Corporation of India Employees Union, Adilabad, would participate in the strike on November 19 called by the All India Cement Workers’ Federation. Cruz Azul begins US$300m plant construction

Mexican cement maker Cementos Cruz Azul began construction this week of a US$300m, 1Mta-capacity plant in Puebla state municipality Palmar de Bravo, the state government announced.  For improved access, the company will build a 14km railroad and a stretch of road connecting the plant to the Puebla-Orizaba highway. Cruz Azul has three plants in central and southern Mexico, according to industry chamber Canacem.

Lafarge, owners of Honduran cement company Incehsa, has asked the government to annul an executive decree which fixed cement prices at 70 lempiras (US$3.90) a bag on August 23, according to local news reports. More than 634,000t of cement was produced for the first nine months of 2004 by Katavsky Cement a 6.6-fold increase compared to the same period 2003. In the whole of 2003 the company produced 142,000t of cement. Output from Jan till September 2004 rose 279% to more than 41,000t, according to a press release from Eurocement.
