Colacem obtains Tunisian funds

OCI signs Algeria cement plant loan

Egypt’s Orascom Construction Industries said its wholly owned subsidiary Algerian Cement Company signed a US$112m loan to build a second production line in Algeria.  Orascom Construction (OCI) said in a statement sent late on Tuesday that the new facility would have an annual capacity of 2.2Mt and would increase the firm’s total production to 4.4Mta, making it the biggest cement producer in Algeria. Shui On Construction and Materials Ltd, Hong kong, said Monday it has signed an agreement to buy an 80 per cent stake in cement maker Yunnan Cement from state-owned firm Yunnan National Assets Operation Co. Nordic Capital, the Swedish private equity firm, is in talks to take over Aalborg Portland, from FLS Industries, according to Scandinavian news sources. FLS has been preparing to sell Aalborg Portland and Unicon for months and according to rumours Nordic Capital is now seen as a favourite to take over Aalborg. The Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) has decided to increase the import of cement. Three consignments aggregating to over 60,000t each are expected to reach Doha next month. Qatar mainly imports cement from the India. Cemex to resolve Bogota dispute

The dispute between Cemex and the administration of Bogota city, Colombia, regarding a pledge for Cemex to indemnify Bogota for the damages caused by bad quality cement supplied by it to the Transmilenio urban transportation ring, is to be discussed in the Paris Chamber of Commerce, France. Bogota claims US$20m from Cemex, while Cemex  has apparently stated that would only accept to settle 50 per cent of this sum.

Dutch ENCI to reorganise

The ENCI works in Maastricht, southern Netherlands, will shortly start a large-scale reorganisation, it was reported on June 29, 2004.  Forced redundancies are not to be ruled out, an ENCI spokesperson said.  ENCI, owned by German concrete producer Heidelberg Cement AG, has to start operating more efficiently, as a result of the stronger competition from Germany.
