Egypt’s cement output fell to 16.8Mt in the first seven months of the fiscal 2003/04, ending June 30, 2004, from about 17.1Mt in the corresponding period of 2002/03, the Egyptian state-run Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said in a report.  Local cement sales decreased to 14.9Mt in the period from July 2003 to January 2004 from 15.6Mt in the year-earlier period. Ghacem has debunked claims by the Ghana Standards Board (GSB) that it had put underweight cement on the market.  Briefing Journalists in Accra, Bjarne Schmidt, Managing Director of the Company, said considering the nature of equipment used at the Ghacem works, it is virtually impossible for the company or anyone to put out underweight bags on the market. The employee union of Egyptian cement producer Beni Suef Cement has offered for sale its 5.0 per cent stake in the company equal to 1.65 million shares, it was reported on March 10, 2004.  The shares will be sold to the highest bidder. Associated Cement Companies Ltd (ACC) India’s second largest cement maker, expects revenue to grow 11 per cent in the current financial year, due to strong demand. To keep the feel-good factor going, Gujarat government has asked cement manufacturers in the state to reduce price of the commodity by Rs10 a bag.  In other parts of the country also, manufacturers were asked to reduce prices, The Time4s of India reports.
