Huaxin Cement Co Ltd said its board has approved a proposal to invest 200 mln yuan to set up a new production facility.  The company will have complete ownership of the production line, which will start construction this year and be put into operation next year.  The facility will produce 2.2Mt of cement annual. The Nagaland regional government in India will soon set up a Rs 470-crore cement plant having an annual production capacity of 1Mt, with an aim to exporting cement to neighbouring Myanmar. China’s Anhui Conch Cement Co Ltd said its 2003 net profit surged 180.4 per cent to 739.57 mln yuan, under Chinese accounting standards, on the back of increased cement sales, higher government subsidies and cost cutting measures. Lafarge raises stake in Serbia

Serbian cement plant Lafarge-BFC said on March 16, 2004 that French cement group Lafarge had raised its stake in the plant to 84 p er cent. Lafarge bought 72,000 shares in the plant from small shareholders in the period February 19 to March 15, 2004, offering a price of US$145.4 (118.8 euro) per share. Saudi cement producer, Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC), registered output of 2.698Mt of cement in 2003, compared to 2.461Mt in 2002, recent statistics showed. Cement demand in Spain reached 7.1Mt in January and February 2004, up 4.03 per cent year-on-year, Spanish Cement Makers Association OFICEMEN said on March 17, 2004.  Spanish cement makers produced 6.9Mt of cement in the first two months of 2004, a rise of 8.7 per cent year-on-year. Retail cement prices in Mumbai are set for another round of increases in the next couple of days.
