JSW Group plans Salboni plant, India

JSW Group announced that it will be setting up a 2.4Mta grinding plant at Salboni in West Midnapore district, West Bengal, India. A 10Mt steel plant was originally planned for the site, but the company has not proceeded with the project thus far due to coal and iron linkages and problems with the land lease. Orient Cement commissions Karnataka plant, India

Orient Cement has commissioned and started commercial production of its new integrated greenfield cement plant Chittapur, Gulbarga district, Karnataka, with an installed capacity of 3Mta. The first consignment of cement from the new plant was dispatched on 26 September 2015. Completion of the project lifts Orient Cement’s total cement capacity to 8Mta.

NCC kicks off Pangasinan plant expansion

Northern Cement Corp (NCC), part of the San Miguel Corp, has broken ground on the US$200m expansion of its plant in Pangasinan, Philippines. The new project will double the facility's capacity to more than 2Mta. "The economy and infrastructure sector are growing rapidly and by expanding NCC, we are supporting the development efforts of the Philippine government and reducing dependence on imported cement," NCC President Ramon S Ang was quoted in the statement as saying.

Egypt prices decline on slower construction activity

Egyptian prices have declined three times in the past two months as a result of increased supply and low demand in the market, local media have reported. Paraguay: cement price spikes 20%

In the past few weeks the price for a bag of cement in Paraguay has spiked to PYG56,000 from PYG45,000, up 20 per cent. The price rise has been attributed to technical issues with the kiln of Industria Nacional del Cemento and is expected to fall once the have been resolved.

Kenya: West Pokot plant construction poised for 2016 start

Construction work on a long-awaited cement plant in West Pokot County, Kenya, is due to commence early next year, company officials have confirmed. Growth in Colombian cement demand continues as dispatches increased 8.8 per cent YoY to 1.152Mt, according to DANE, the country's statistics office. Key markets were Antioquia (15 per cent of total demand), Bogota (13.4 per cent) and Cundinamarca (9.2 per cent). Output edged up 3.1 per cent to 1.111Mt. Spain: cement demand up 5.6% YoY 8M15

Spain’s cement consumption increased 5.6 per cent YoY to 7,397,362t in the first eight months of 2015, according to Oficemen, the country’s cement association. However, this pitches growth just below 1H15 expansion, when demand increased by 8.6 per cent. Mexican cement firms line up for airport contracts

A group of 20 Mexican cement firms from AMCI, the association of independent concrete companies, are to invest MXN300m (EUR15.90m, US$18.03m) in the installation of a sector cluster to supply concrete for the construction of Mexico City's new international airport (NAICM).
