Mehmet Göçmen has been elected chairman of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers Association (TÇMB) by board members at the 56th General Assembly meeting last month. Mr Göçmen is currently Sabanci Holding Cement Group President. He has previously held positions at Akcansa and Lafarge. Mr Göçmen replaces Mustafa Güçlü who has served as TÇMB chairman since 2011. Italcementi eyes Myanmar investment

Italian cement major Italcementi is studying the possibility of entering the Myanmar market in the the next few years, its chief executive has said in a recent interview. Eastern Province full-year profit declines, Saudi Arabia

Eastern Province Cement Company (EPC) booked a SAR309m (US$82.4m) net profit for 2013, down from SAR387m a year ago, a decrease of 20.2 per cent YoY. The company attributed the decline to lower sales and higher manufacturing costs as a result of maintenance works. Earnings per share (EPS) stood at SAR 3.59, compared with SAR 4.5. The Saudi-based producer registered an operating profit of SAR298m for the 12 months to December 2013, down from SAR374m a year earlier.

Italcementi's 2013 turnover declined by 5.4 per cent to EUR4,235.4m while the underlying EBITDA way off by just 1.9 per cent to EUR631.0m. Argos Honduras will increase the price of its cement as of Tuesday, 11 March after it received government authorisation to raise prices by HNL8/bag. Semen Indonesia has inaugurated a new cement packing plant in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, taking the company’s total number of packing facilities to 23. The plant is estimated to have cost IDR120bn (US$10m), the company said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday. Turkey-based Cimsa said its consolidated net profit surged 162 per cent to TRL302.3m (EUR99.6m) in 2013.
