Eagle Materials first half cement turnover improves

Eagle Materials’ first half turnover, including its share of the Texan cement joint venture with HeidelbergCement, came off by 0.4% to US$298.48m for the six months of the end of September and the trading profit fell by 29% to US$29.5m. Bharathi Cement set to introduce product into Sri Lanka

Bharathi Cement will introduce their product line to the Sri Lankan market from tomorrow. Bharathi Cement’s local agent Metsteel (Pvt) Ltd Managing Director S. Kanakaraja told to the Daily News Business that 50 containers of Bharathi Cement have already been brought into the country and cement will be available in the Sri Lankan market from tomorrow at competitive prices. Semen Tonasa looks to increase 2012 sales

Indonesian cement company PT Semen Tonasa said it hopes to increase cement sales to 4.6Mt in 2012 from this year’s target of 4.26Mt. Pakistan exported 2.335Mt of cement and earned US$111.818m during the first three months of the current financial compared to 2.33Mt at US$117.372m in the corresponding period. This shows cement exports rose 0.21 per cent YoY in terms of quantity but fell 4.73 per cent in terms of value, according to data released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics. Oman Cement is weighing moves to increase its cement grinding capacity, Hamdan Mohammed al Wahaibi, Member of the Board, stated in the Board of Directors’ Report for the nine months ended September 30, 2011, issued here yesterday.

John Reagan, Environmental Manager for the Lafarge Cement Plant in Ravena announced Thursday that layoff notices had gone out earlier in the day to 39 employees. Thirty-six of the 39 were hourly employees, three were salaried and the company will not fill several vacant salaried positions.
