Vietnam cement output to meet domestic requirements

Supply of cement will meet Vietnamese domestic market demand next year, according to the Ministry of Construction. Following an order by the High Court ordering the Birla Corporation to suspend limestone mining at the company’s Chanderia plant, the next date for a hearing has been fixed for 10 December 2011. JK Cement manager killed in road accident, India

An official of JK Cement factory in Kankaroli was killed in a road accident late Friday night, reports local press. Ranjit Singh served as manager in JK Cement factory in Kankaroli. He was riding on his bike when an unknown vehicle reportedly hit him that resulted in his death. The driver of the vehicle managed to flee away just after the accident, police said. "Our team rushed to the accident site and Ranjit was immediately sent to a nearby hospital. He succumbed to his injuries."

Rail freight rise to put pressure on Indian cement companies

Higher-than-expected increase in surcharge and cess by the Indian Railways would increase freight cost for cement companies, said two analysts tracking the sector. Saudi-based Tabuk Cement Company has posted a 9.37% net profit for the year to date. In a statement to the Tadawul, the company revealed that it had realised a net profit of US$29m (SAR108.85m) for the nine month period ending September 30, 2011 – a considerable jump over the  US$26.53m (SAR99.52m) it made during the first nine months of 2010.
