Adana Cimento invests in new line, Turkey

Cement producer Adana Cimento, an Oyak Group company, says it plans to invest US$80m in a clinker facility in the city of Iskenderun. With this investment annual clinker production capacity of Adana Cimento will increase to 3.3Mt from the current 2.3Mt. The new facility is expected to be completed and come online within two years.

India sector to see lowest profitability in a decade - report

Crisil Research has forecast that the profitability of the cement sector will decline to its lowest in a decade by the next financial year, mainly due to a huge glut in supply. 

The independent research house said in a statement, describing the highlights of a study it has completed recently, that the supply glut will slacken cement manufacturers operating rates, consequently restricting their ability to pass on a sharp rise in power and fuel costs to consumers.

Pakistan monthly export volumes rise

Data from Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics shows that in the first month of the current fiscal year (July 2011) Pakistan exported 706,936t of cement, earning US$39.072m compared to 673,400t at US$39.249m in June 2011. The pace of decline in GCC cement sector profitability appears to be slowing down, according to recent figures by Global Investment House. The consolidated cement sector profitability declined by 4.7% YoY to USD785.9m in 1H11 compared to a decline of 12.0%YoY in 1H10. Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe says it plans to produce 280,000t of cement this year despite encountering a major plant breakdown in June. Following the introduction of multiple currencies in 2009, Zimbabwe’s construction industry has been steadily improving, albeit at a slower pace. Pakistan market expected to see 10 per cent growth

With only half of the allocated development fund expected to be utilised in fiscal year 2011-12 along with a slowdown in export markets, Pakistan cement dispatches are expected to see an improvement of up to 10% to 33-35Mt in the current fiscal year.

State-owned cement producer PT Semen Gresik, the largest cement company in Indonesia, announced that its two new cement plants – in Tuban, East Java, and in Pangkep, South Sulawesi – will start operations within one year.

Athi River Mining plans South African plant

Athi River Mining (ARM) plans to set up a cement production factory in South Africa. The project is part of the company’s move to boost its revenue by nearly one-fifth, ARM chief executive Pradeep Paunrana has said.

Sino-Zimbabwe plans new plant

Chinese firm, Sino-Zimbabwe, announcing plans to build Zimbabwe’s fourth plant in the city of Masvingo, according to local press reports.

 Masvingo Mayor Femius Chakabuda said: ’Sino Zimbabwe is planning to build a new cement plant after discovering huge deposits of limestone and we have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding because the Chinese are asking for guarantees that we will be able to supply them with water for their plant.” The capacity of the plant remains undisclosed.
