Taiwan sets its sights on Chongqing producer, China

Taiwan Cement Group recently announced it has set aside CNY1.6bn to acquire Kehua, the largest cement producer in Chongqing of Sichuan province, China. 

Thanks to the acquisition, the group’s annual production capacity in China will exceed 64Mt. This is the third time Taiwan Cement has acquired China’s medium- and small-sized cement plants so far this year, following the acquisition of Gangan cement plant and Scitus Cement (China) Holdings in Guizhou province. Cachapuz Bilanciai receives further order from Jaiprakash, India

Cachapuz Bilanciai Group has received a further order for its SLV Cement software and automation solution from Jaiprakash Associates (the cement division of Jaypee Group). SLV Cement will be implemented at the Chunar Cement Plant, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. With this new order, Chunar plant will be the third Jaiprakash plant to have the SLV Cement software installed to help improve and organise the cement dispatching processes.

Vietnam Jan-August production expected to rise 10.7%

Vietnam is estimated to have produced 39.3Mt of cement in the first eight months of this year. The figure represents a YoY rise of 10.7%, the government’s General Statistics Office said in its monthly report released Aug 26. In August, the country’s cement output is estimated to have risen 15.7% from a year earlier to 5.3Mt. The Ministry of Construction forecast Vietnam’s cement consumption to stand between 54.5Mt and 56Mt this year, up 9%-10% from a year earlier.

Birla unit ordered to halt limestone mining

Birla Coroporation announced the suspension of limestone mining at Chittorgarh. The announcement came following the order passed by the High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan at Jodhpur to stop mining within 10 kilometers of Chittorgarh Fort. The company, which is taking legal measures to revoke the court order, has confirmed that the limestone stock available at the Chanderia cement plant is sufficient to maintain production for 6-7 days.
