IDA to grant Al Alamia cement licence, Egypt

Egypt’s Industrial Development Authority will grant Al Alamia Misr a license to produce cement with a capacity of 1.5Mt and total investment cost of EGP1.5bn in Marsa Matrouh Governorate. In addition, the company obtained the Ministry of Petroleum approval to import the energy necessary to operate the new plant.

Texas General Land Office wins appeal in case against Cemex

The Texas General Land Office said Friday that it has won an appeal in its case against Cemex in which it’s seeking US$558m in royalties for decades of minerals extraction from McKelligon Canyon, just north of El Paso.   The case, originally brought in 2009, was turned out by a court. Holcim Slovensko sees Slovak construction market stabilising

Holcim (Slovensko) will invest about EUR11m this year, about one-third of which has already been spent to bolster production efficiency and the remaining  EUR7m will fund a new alternative fuel system, company spokesperson Peter Robl said.   Holcim (Slovensko) will also invest EUR25m in two projects in its cement plant in Rohoznik. Ambuja Cement signs new rail track pact, India

The Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Ltd and Ambuja Cement Ltd on Saturday signed an MoU for a 7km railway track. The tracks will be laid and developed between Rabriyawas in Pali district, where Ambuja’s cement plant is located and Ras railway station in Ajmar Marwar section of the Northwestern Railway. The track will help facilitate the transport of raw and finished materials.

Dangote’s Ibese plant to start production this year, Nigeria

Dangote Cement will start production at its Ibese plant in southwestern Nigeria this month, Chief Executive Officer Devakumar Edwin said.   The company will add an additional production line at its Obajana plant in central Nigeria in the fourth quarter, Edwin said.   “By the end of the first quarter of next year, both plants will be operating at 90 per cent of capacity,” Edwin said. Egypt to partner private sector in new plant project

Egypt’s Industrial Development Authority [IDA] is set to partner with the private sector in the construction of a 1.5Mta cement plant in Matrouh governorate on the north coast, worth LE1.5bn (US$252m). The IDA’s intent to partner up with private investors follows a government decision to allow the private sector to hold a greater stake in strategic national industries, according to the IDA Chairman Ismail Nagdy.

The newly remodeled facility is equipped with all the necessary features for testing customers’ dry bulk solid  aterials in volumetric, gravimetric, and vibratory feeding configurations. Gresik to acquire US$117m coal mine, Indonesia

Indonesia’s largest cement maker PT Semen Gresik said it has set aside IDR1trn (US$117m) to acquire a coal mine. The acquisition is aimed at reducing production cost, Dwi Soetjipto, the president of the state company said, adding coal for fuel accounts for 30 per cent of the company’s production cost. Ashish Guha, CEO & MD of HeidelbergCement India, has said cement dispatches have been below target as he spoke to Bloomberg UTV on cement prices, despatches, rising input costs and demand-supply outlook. “Cement despatches have been lower than targets,” says Guha.
