Chinese firm, Sino-Zimbabwe, plans to establish a cement plant in the Nyanda mountain range, along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway, Zimbabwe. The decsion to set up the new plant follows the discovery of a large deposit of limestone in the Nyanda mountain range, about 15km southeast of Masvingo. TCC Group to see net profit margin grow 10%

Thanks to the cement price hike in China, TCC International Holding Co, part of the TCC Group, expects net profit margin increase by 10% and shipments grow 40% in the second quarter of this year. TCC International is expected to ship 10Mt of cement in the second quarter of this year, hitting a historic high. Over the last couple of weeks, the price of cement in Bangladesh has risen by BDT20-40/bag (US$0.3-0.5), depending on the brand. The rise is being attributed to rising raw material costs. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. Japan’s largest cement maker saw its stocks decline by 1.9 per cent after Credit Suisse Group AG cut its rating on the company. Taiheiyo’s rating has been downgraded to Underperform from Neutral.

Spanish association of cement producers Oficemen has named president the chairman of cement producer Cementos Portland Valderrivas, Dieter Kiefer. Kiefer will replace Joaquin Estrada, former general director of Cemex Espana, the Spanish unit of Mexico-based cement group Cemex, Oficemen said in a statement. Caribbean Cement Company Limited (CCCL), despite its best performance to date on export sales, this week reported one of its worst years of operation in which cement supplied to the market hit a seven-year low and its operating losses climbed above J$2 billion.
