British construction sector activity slowed markedly in July to a four-month low as firms’ confidence about the outlook deteriorated due to concerns about public spending cuts, a survey of purchasing managers showed on Tuesday. Egypt’s Alexandria Cement posted a 13 per cent gain in first-half net profit, the stock exchange said on Tuesday, defying a slowdown in its Greek parent’s main markets. The firm, a subsidiary of Titan Cement, reported net profit rose to E£286.5m from E£253.3m a year earlier. The bourse statement gave no further details. Lafarge Nigeria 1H pre-tax profit up 2.6%

Lafarge Cement (WAPCO) said its half year to June pre-tax profit rose 2.6 per cent to NGN6.38bn (US$42m) from NGN6.bn a year ago. The company said its turnover dropped to NGN23.05bn in the period from NGN25.03bn a year earlier, the cement firm said in a filing to the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Holcim Philippines to resume Line No 2 at Lugait plant

Holcim Philippines Inc announced they will be resuming operations at the second production line at its  Lugait, Misamis Oriental plant in November given the strong market demand. Holcim still has idle lines in Davao and Bulacan. Holcim said that the opening of the second production line that they closed July last year will result in the hiring of 40 contractual workers. India: cement prices to remain under pressure

Aditya Birla group-controlled Grasim Ltd today said that cement prices will remain under pressure over the next six to eight quarters due to oversupply. 

 "Cement prices are expected to remain under pressure due to an oversupply scenario," Grasim Whole-Time Director and CFO Adesh Gupta told reporters here. 

Cement prices are under pressure across the country and particularly in the South. The oversupply is due to new capacity addition, Gupta said.

PT Semen Gresik Friday said first half net profit rose 7.9% to IDR1.63trn from IDR1.51trn a year earlier, thanks to a drop in cost of sales and lower income tax. Sales dropped 1.6% to IDR6.66trn from IDR6.77trn a year earlier. Lafarge monthly exports to DRC reach 15,000t

Lafarge Cement Zambia is currently exporting 15,000t of cement to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) per month, commercial director Bwembya Chikwanda has disclosed.

Chikwanda said besides the export quota to the DRC, Lafarge was currently exporting 4,000t of cement per month to Burundi.
