Lafarge Jordan profit falls 73%

Lafarge Cement Jordan, the country’s leading cement producer, posted a 73 per cent fall in first-half net profit to JD9.4m (US$13.3m) on Tuesday, on weaker domestic sales. Nigeria’s Ashaka Cement 1H pre-tax profit rises

Nigeria’s Ashaka Cement said on Tuesday pre-tax profit rose 41 per cent to NGN2.29bn in the first half of the year, despite falling in the first quarter. Pre-tax profit in the first quarter dropped 17 percent to NGN1.31bn, the company said in a filing to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Turnover rose to NGN10.08bn in the first half from NGN8.95bn a year earlier, despite a slight fall year-on-year to NGN5.13bn in the first quarter.

Vulcan sells more cement at lower prices

Holcim US fined for safety violations, NY

Government records show that Holcim has been cited for more than 300 safety violations carrying fines totaling $455,000 since it became the Smith’s Landing plant operator in 2008.

The records, compiled by the Mine Safety and Health Administration, which regulates U.S. metal, nonmetal and coal mines, show over the last two years the plant has incurred up 310 violations, 97 of which the government says could lead to serious injury or illness.

Cement makers India Cements and Madras Cements posted lower net profit for April-June, as additional capacities went on stream as construction activities slowed down in the quarter. Ras Al Khaimah Cement Company posted a net deficit for the last three months of AED4.2 million – a significant reversal from the AED21.7 million profit for the same period last year. Lafarge Hima commissions new plant, Uganda

Hima Cement last week opened its new plant set to raise annual production and supply of cement by an additional 500,000t. 

The opening of the plant now increases Hima Cement’s annual production capacity to 850,000t from the previous 350,000t.
