Bosowo plans US$120m expansion, Indonesia

Bosowa Corporation plans to spend US$120m expanding its cement production and distribution capacity as it looks to capitalise on a planned infrastructure spending spree by the government and a rapidly developing property market.

Bosses at Cemex’ Rugby cement plant Cemex claim a new government “green tax” could force them to move their UK operations abroad in the future, local press report. Holcim puts New Zealand plant on hold

Holcim has put plans for a new factory near the South Island town of Oamaru on hold, according to local press reports.   A decision on the US$400m plan was expected in August this year but Holcim New Zealand’s project manager, Ken Cowie, said the company’s Swiss headquarters has put the project on hold due to global economic uncertainties. Vietnamese Prime Minister has given the Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem) to purchase a 75 per cent stake in Cam Pha Cement JSC, an affiliate of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export JS Corp (VCG). Swiss 3Q cement shipments decline marginally

Domestic cement deliveries in Switzerland declined in the 3Q11 by 2.3% YoY to 1.26Mt. The third quarter of 2011, however, included one less working day, and therefore deliveries can be considered to be constant, the Swiss Association for the Cement Industry in a statement Wednesday.

 From January to September 2011, cement shipments rose 3.8% to 3.58Mt. For the full year, the association expects a volume up to the level of the previous year.

“Arab Spring” impacts on Turkey’s cement exports

The “Arab Spring” has negatively impacted Turkey cement exports in the first half of 2011 as export volumes registered a 27% decline to 5.9Mt when compared to the equivalent period last year. However, output from the country’s cement plants went up 1.11% to 30.624Mt with 24.7Mt sold domestically, which represented a YoY rise of 11.6%. Turkey’s Mediterranean regions performed particularly strong as it registered a 19% increase.
