RAK to produce oilwell cements, UAE

RAK Cement has gained regulatory approval to start producing cement for oil wells, according to a note to investors, reports Construction Week. The Ras Al Khaimah manufacturer of ordinary and sulphate-resistant Portland cement, as well as Powercrete, said the American Petroleum Institute has completed its audit and awarded its Monogram badge to the company.

Mozambique unit opens new cement mill at Matola Plant

Cimpor has opened a cement mill at its Matola operation that will almost double capacity, Cimentos de Mocambique said. The mill has capacity to produce 600,000tpa, taking the Matola plants potential output to 1.3Mta, the Lisbon-based company said in a statement published on its website today. The plant cost EUR18m, it said.

Chinese to build cement plant in Tajikistan

An industrial park is to be established in Tajikistan with an agreement being signed between the Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) and China National Building Material Group Corporation (CNBM). The investment project is aimed at construction of a cement plant with a capacity of more than 1Mta and a glasswork, production of building materials and development of ore deposits will be implemented within the frameworks of the industrial park, a source noted.

Flour Mills of Nigeria to raise US$179.3m in rights offer

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc plans to raise as much as NGN28bn (US$179.3m) in a rights offer, according to Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Ukpabi. The company received shareholder approval for the plan at its annual general meeting held today in the commercial capital, Lagos, he said from the city. Flour Mills will use the money to diversify into new markets including power generation, Ukpabi said, without commenting further.

Oyak reports 12% first half growth, Turkey

Oyak Cement Group has said that domestic cement demand increased by 12% YoY in the first half of 2011 and it expects domestic cement sales to increase by 8% for the full year. Mardin Cimento, part of Oyak, recorded an EBITDA margin of 37.4%, net income margin of 31.3%, return on capital of 14.5% and a dividend yield of 10.6% in the first half. Unye Cimento, another Oyak Group Company, saw EBITDA margins up 33.6%, and net income margins rose 23.9%.

Vietnam consumption at 31.65Mt

Vietnam’s cement consumption stood at 31.65Mt in the first eight months of this year. In August, the country’s cement consumption was 3.41Mt in comparison with 3.45Mt in July, the Ministry of Construction said on its website Thursday.
