The Vietnamese Ministry of Construction (MoC) has estimated that the country’s cement exports will rise 43 per cent YoY to 2.2Mt in September. The country’s exports from Jan-Sept 2018 are estimated to have reached 23.28Mt, already surpassing the full-year target set by the MoC of 18-19Mt. Vietnam’s La Hien Cement JSC has announced a 20 per cent YoY increase in revenue to VND334.1bn (US$14.31m) for the first half of 2018. Furthermore, profit-after-tax surged 17 per cent to VND13.7bn in the 1H18. Meanwhile, financial expenses fell 52.5 per cent to VND5.9bn from VND9bn recorded in the year-ago period.

Vietnamese cement demand rose 14 per cent YoY to 5.44Mt in August 2018, according to the Vietnam National Cement Association (VNCA). Of this total, northern provinces accounted for 39.2 per cent or 2.13Mt of total domestic consumption while off-take in central Vietnam reached 1.42Mt or 26.2 per cent. Vietnamese cement producers may increase prices this month as a result of the increased demand seen in the construction season, according to the Department of Price Management under the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance. However, the prices of popular cement products, such as PCB30 and PCB40, remained stable in August. Vicem affiliates are currently supplying the two types of cement at a price range between VND1-1.47m/t (US$42.9-63/t), depending on the product and specific producer.

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corp (Vicem) reported cement and clinker sales of 18.88Mt in the first eight months of this year. ThaiGroup receives land for Minh Tam plant construction

The People’s Committee in Binh Phuoc, Vietnam, has decided to hand over 430,612m 2 of land to ThaiGroup JSC for the construction of the Minh Tam cement plant. ThaiGroup initiated the project in early-2017 by acquiring it from Mien Dong JSC, which was facing financial difficulties. Vietnamese exports of cement and clinker soared to 2.251Mt in July 2018, up 61 per cent YoY.
