Vietnam cement producers cut retail prices by US$7.48/t in 2018

Vietnamese cement producers have reduced their retail prices by VND10,000-170,000/t (US$0.44-7.48/t) since the start of this year, according to the Vietnam Ministry of Finance’s Price Management Department. The price cut has been attributed to the falling exports that have left a glut in the domestic market. In addition, cement plants had been producing at full capacity to reduce unit costs. Vietnam’s VVMI La Hien profit slips 1% in 2017

VVMI La Hien Cement JSC reported a one per cent YoY decrease in its net profit to VND27.98bn (US$1.23m) in 2017. The company’s revenue fell one per cent YoY to VND649.46bn in 2017. In 4Q17 the Vietnamese cement producer saw a a more than two-fold rise of its net profit to VND18.37bn and a 12.3 per cent increase of its net revenue to VND221.79bn.

Thanh Thang to develop third line

Thanh Thang Group Cement JSC is investing VND800bn (US$35.2m) in developing the third production line in Ha Nam, northern Vietnam. Construction of the 2.3Mta facility is expected to be completed in 2021. In July 2017 Thanh Thang inaugurated its second production line, which is also located in Ha Nam province. The VND5tn line has a clinker capacity of 6000tpd or 2.3Mta of cement.

Hoang Phat Vissai exports 0.22Mt in January

Hoang Phat Vissai Group (The Vissai) has exported 220,000t of cement and clinker from Nghi Thiet port in Vietnam’s Nghe An province since the start of January. The exported cement is destined for the Philippines, Canada and China, according to Nguyen Quoc Tai, director of Nghi Thiet port and the grinding unit of Song Lam Cement JSC, a The Vissai affiliate. The Nghi Thiet grinding facility entered service in June 2017.

Cement production in Vietnam reached 80Mt in 2017, up six per cent on the year before, according to local press reports. Vietnam is expected to increase its supply glut in the run-up to 2020, according to Vietnam Net. Vietnam exported 17.48Mta of cement and clinker worth US$613.3m in the first 11 months of this year, according to Vietnam News. This represents a 30.4 per cent increase in volume and a 20.2 per cent rise in value from the year-ago period.
